Welcome to Student Volunteer Army. Student Volunteer Army is Foodstuffs online supermarket where you can purchase grocery items (Groceries) through the Student Volunteer Army call centre. Your use of Student Volunteer Army is governed by these terms and conditions so please read them carefully.

AS YOU GET STARTED, PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THAT - 

The safety and wellbeing of our volunteers is of paramount importance to us; the Student Volunteer Army reserves the right to make any alterations or changes to your delivery (and the resourcing required to provide that), in the event that we feel that it is in the best interests of our volunteer's health and safety.

It’s important to note: 

  • This is an extraordinary time, and we’re working incredibly hard to make sure that we can assist - however please note that in some cases we may get it wrong. Please be patient. 
  • If items are out of stock, we will arrange substitutes where we can. 
  • We’re endeavouring to deliver groceries the next day (but please allow up to 48 hours). 
  • This is a service that is being supported through donations & partners. 

And, now for the legal terms & conditions: 

The systems and intellectual property rights relating to or supporting Student Volunteer Army are owned or controlled by Foodstuffs North Island, Foodstuffs South Island, Foodstuffs (N.Z.) Limited, and/or any affiliate, subsidiary or related company of those Foodstuffs entities (together, Foodstuffs). The operator of the New World supermarket that you have selected to supply your Groceries (we, our or us in these terms and conditions) is responsible for the supply of Groceries ordered by you through Student Volunteer Army. The physical New World supermarket that we operate is referred to as “Our Store” in these terms and conditions. Any orders you place through Student Volunteer Army are legally binding offers and if accepted by us, a legally binding contract is formed between you and us.

Student Volunteer Army is intended for use by people located in New Zealand and is not intended for use by anyone located outside New Zealand.

1. YOUR USE OF STUDENT VOLUNTEER ARMY

By accessing, and ordering your Groceries through Student Volunteer Army, you are deemed to have read and agreed to these terms and conditions. We do not charge you for the use of Student Volunteer Army. You are responsible for any data or telecommunications charges associated with your use of Student Volunteer Army.

2. PLACING AN ORDER 

2.1 Minimum order value

The total estimated value will be spoken about before the order is confirmed. No minimum cost provided the $6 delivery fee is paid.

2.2 Order cut-off times

Orders for Delivery must be placed before 3.00pm each day however, orders taken after 3.00pm will be taken and processed the next morning. Orders taken until 4.00pm or otherwise determined by us.

2.3 Delivery Times

There may be a limit to the number of orders that can be delivered each available 48 hour period to ensure the Health and Safety of our volunteers.

We will do what we reasonably can to deliver within 48hours of the order being processed. If it is not possible for us to deliver within 48 hours, we will try to contact you using the contact information you provided to us during your phone call.

2.4 Estimated order value and final order value

The order total discussed before confirmed is an estimated total only. The final order value is the actual price you will pay for your Groceries (plus a service fees for Delivery and any donations you wish to contribute) and may change from the estimated order value for the following reasons:

  • Variable weight items – if you have ordered Grocery items that need to be weighed (such as produce, seafood, meat and deli items from our fresh food departments) or are pre-packed items that are of variable weight, you will be charged for the actual weight of the item picked by the volunteer. Our Volunteers will do their best to ensure that the items you actually get and pay for weigh as close as possible to the weight you ordered.
  • Substitutions – if you have agreed that substitutions are allowed, the final value of your order may reduce as a result of us substituting one or more ordered items (that are not available) for items of an equal or lower value.
  • No substitutions – if you have not agreed to allow for substitutions, the final value of your order may reduce from the estimated order value, as a result of us removing Groceries from your order that are not available.

The final value for variable weight items will be calculated using the weight of the item when those items are picked by our Volunteers.

The final value for substitutions will be calculated based on the price of those Grocery items when they are picked by our Volunteers.

For all other Groceries, your final order value will be calculated based on the prices at the time of your order being picked by volunteer.

Where the final order value of your order is different from your estimated order value, this will be displayed in your final receipt for your Groceries. This final receipt will be provided to you in hard copy with your Groceries when they are delivered.

2.5 Payment

Orders must be paid for by credit or debit card only (Visa or Mastercard). You cannot use New World Gift Cards or New World Dollars to pay for orders through Student Volunteer Army.

Your credit or debit card will have a nominal amount (currently $1) held from the time you place your order to ensure your card is valid. This nominal amount will be reversed within 7 days of placing your order (it will not be taken off the payment for your order).

Payment for your order will be processed on the date your groceries are bought and delivered. You must ensure you have sufficient funds available on your credit or debit card to pay for the order on this date. If you have insufficient funds on that date then your order will not be processed or provided. We will contact you to let you know that your order has been cancelled.

You agree to indemnify (i.e. compensate) us against any loss or damage that we incur arising out of any default by your credit or debit card provider to make payment to us in full and where for whatever reason the Groceries are made available to you for pick-up or otherwise delivered.

2.6 Currency/GST

All prices set out in these terms and conditions are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) and include GST.

2.7 Confirmation of order

The volunteer how takes the order will confirm the order via relaying this back to you before the order is submitted.

2.8 Grocery item availability and substitutions

We will do all that we reasonably can to supply the Grocery items you’ve ordered, but in some cases Grocery items may be unavailable. All Grocery items are subject to availability. Our goal is never to be out of stock, but in case we are, before you confirm your order we will ask you if you would like to allow us to substitute similar items for items in your order that are not available. If you have not agreed to allow for substitutions then any items in your order that are not available will not be supplied and you will not be charged for those items. If you have agreed to allow for substitutions, any substituted items will be an equal or better quality item at an equal or lower price.

2.9 Maximum number of items

We reserve the right to limit the number of each item we will supply in any transaction. You must not purchase items through Student Volunteer Army for the purposes of resale. Orders will be limited to what a volunteer can carry in two reusable shopping bags- please be mindful of this when ordering

2.10 If what you order is not what you get

Our Volunteers will do their best to pick your Groceries in accordance with your order and preferences. This is a temporary service for those that cannot leave their homes at this time- we will do our best to get it right.

2.11 Cancelling your order

You will not be able to change your order once confirmed however, you can cancel your order through Student Volunteer Army up until the Order Cut-Off Time of 3.00pm on the day the order was confirmed.

2.12 Returns

Unfortunately, due to food safety, hygiene requirements and the health and safety of volunteers, we cannot take return any items purchased through Student Volunteer Army. This is a temporary project to help the aging population at this time.

3. DELIVERY OF YOUR GROCERIES

3.1 Delivery to your nominated address

We can deliver your order to any nominated address within Christchurch City.

We will do what we reasonably can to deliver within a 48 hours’ time period. If that is not possible we will try to contact you using the contact information you provided to us.

3.2 Service fees (Delivery)

Service fees for our online shopping delivery service is $6. Delivery fee will be added on the final order value.

We collect personal information from you, including information about your:

  • name
  • contact information
  • location
  • computer or network
  • interactions with us
  • payment and credit card information

We collect your personal information in order to:

  • Assist individuals impacted by COVID-19
  • Collect information from volunteers to match them with individuals who need assistance

We share this information with:

  • Pre-approved volunteers in order to assist individuals who require assistance owing to COVID-19.
  • Secure payment gateways in order to process payments on behalf of those requiring assistance
  • The New Zealand Police in order to undertake background checks on volunteers

Providing some information is optional. If you choose not to enter the information required, we'll be unable to assist with either matching volunteers, or assisting those requiring assistance due to COVID-19.

We keep your information safe by using third party services with strict data privacy policies and only allowing pre-approved persons to access the data, and only the data that they require for that task .

You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong. If you’d like to ask for a copy of your information, or to have it corrected, please contact us at info@sva.org.nz, or 0800 005 902.
